December is a time to share and to work together. Each December, Big Brothers' volunteers pack and distribute 1,500 food boxes for low-income families, seniors and disabled adults on fixed incomes. Each huge box contains approximately 40 pounds of staple nutritious foods to last a few days: beef stew, peanut butter, a canned ham, juice, milk, rice, potatoes, soup, canned vegetables, beans, corn bread and cake mixes, and more.
Volunteers from congregations across the city – Black and White, Christian and Jew – work side-by-side on a makeshift assembly line. More volunteers arrive from Metro Social Services, Exchange Club, Kiwanis, Families First, Catholic Charities, Davidson County Sheriff's Department, Ladies of Charity, and more, to pick up and distribute the boxes. Every recipient is carefully screened for need. Food is provided by donations and in association with Second Harvest Food Bank.
Food Basket Requests are accepted October 15th - November 19th. If you wish to request a food box, please fill out our request form:

No applications will be accepted by Mail. You must apply in person for Assistance.
